Energy Firm's New Home Takes Shape

Building in the heart of historic Bury St Edmunds has seen demand for the traditional skills of R G Carter Thetford.

Brick and flint walls are a feature of the three storey office block being constructed on a prominent town centre site for client Pigeon Investment Management. The flints are complete stones, as is the custom in that part of Suffolk - unlike the knapped or split flints seen elsewhere in East Anglia.

In 2005 RGC Thetford won a Suffolk Association of Architects Craftsmanship Award for the flintwork created on R G Carter's own offices in Bury. It was an accolade which impressed not only it's latest client, but also the planners who viewed a series of sample panels to help decide on the building's final look.

The new offices which share their name with Linden House, a 19th Century building standing in the same grounds and formerly the offices of Anglian Water, will be occupied by EIC, the UK's largest independant energy consultancy. EIC chose the new state of the art offices as they will accommodate their growing team in an open plan, stylish environment.

A traditional topping out ceremony saw the ceremonial 'final slate' nailed on to the roof of the building, which was performed by Peter Bell, Director of Pigeon Investment Management.
