Worlds first Zero Carbon Tesco Superstore in Ramsey, Peterborough is Complete
This landmark
supermarket scheme,involved the
construction of a new single storey, environmental, timber panel clad, timber
framed Superstore with petrol filling station, delivery area, access roads,
associated car parking and alterations to adjacent roads and highways to form
access into the store.
Environmental
Factors Include:
The building was
constructed onto an ‘E Foundation’ which involved removing soil to existing
Clay level and rebuilding the ground to improve the CBR rating. This is more
Eco friendly as it reduces the amount of material removed from site and the
subsequent import fill.
Structural Steel Back
of House Structure with Eurobond cladding panels, with Format Y Glulam Timber
framed sales floor with a larch composite timber cladding.
Nano Gel Roof lights, Airstract ventilation, Wind turbines and Sun Tubes. Rainwater harvesting, Solar
powered street lights and external solar blinds.
Additional carbon
neutral initiatives including cold aisle retrieval and sales fresh air
de-humidification, low flow water fittings to staff and customer areas,
daylight linked sensors for roof lights, CO2 refrigeration and energy
efficient equipment to customer areas, staff restaurant and food counters.
The Store is run
off a 250 kWe Combined Heating Power unit which is fuelled by Bio-Fuel which
ispowering the store.Any surplus
energy is being sold back to the National Grid. The CHP unit has been designed
so that there will be sufficient surplus heat to power a district heating
main for an adjoining residential site.
