Eco Classroom, Dunham Primary School

Dunham, Norfolk

Introduction:

Working closely with Norwich based Eco-Classrooms, R G Carter developed the modular classroom concept from it’s early stage, evaluating build issues and costs, to installing the first unit at Dunham Primary School in Norfolk.

Details:

The new environmentally friendly classrooms are designed to offer a fast track solution for schools suffering from a lack of space, or from temporary premises that have long outlived their use.

Bristling with environmental traits, each unit takes just six weeks to construct, meaning that they have the added capability of being completed during the summer holidays.

Features:

The modular buildings utilise a timber frame and include recycled newspaper insulation, intelligent lighting, sun tubes to reduce dependency on artificial light and an airtight construction making them easy to heat.

They also use air-source heat pumps which take advantage of the outside air for cooling as well as heating.

The ambient conditions provided by the classrooms offer healthy, comfortable and creative teaching environments and with a life expectancy of more than 40 years they are an economical solution for schools that don’t have enough suitable teaching space.

Our Commitment:

The eco-classrooms offer optional enhancements include sedum roofs, solar thermal panels and photovoltaics, natural ventilation, and small scale wind turbines… features that can inspire young people to learn about sustainability and the environment.
