R G Carter has reached the final phase of construction of the new Britten-Pears Foundation archive centre and a topping out ceremony was held to celebrate.
Benjamin Britten was one of the UK’s most celebrated composers of classical music. The event was held on what would have been his 99th birthday.
An archive of over 700 of Britten’s manuscripts, letters, diaries, photographs and recordings will be kept in the new hermetically sealed centre.
With the roof of the centre now in place, R G Carter is on-schedule to complete the project in time for the official opening event, which will be held at the start of the Aldeburgh Festival in June 2013.
