The Forum, Hemel Hempstead’s new council, library and voluntary services hub, opened its doors to the public on Monday 16th January.

The 75,000 square foot energy-efficient building achieved the BREEAM rating of ‘excellent’ for sustainability. Roof top solar panels enable the building to generate its own power, while water for toilets and heating is supplied by rainwater held in an underground reservoir. Safe cycle parking encourages staff to bike to work.

The four-storey building now houses key borough council services, including housing, planning, environmental health and benefits, together with the county council’s library and register services.

Rob Carter, Director of R G Carter Construction, says: “The Forum has fulfilled all of our expectations and in a number of areas exceeded them. It has been a privilege to work alongside Dacorum Borough Council who have been supportive, engaged and forward thinking throughout.”
