Apprentice Carpenter Named as One of the Top Three in the UK

Ben Cooke, a carpenter from R G Carter, has reached the WorldSkills semi-final, making him one of the top three young carpenters in the UK.

WorldSkills sees over 1,000 18 to 23-year-olds from around the world compete in 40 different skill categories. Ben has been competing nationally after completing his three-year apprenticeship in 2011 with R G Carter.

Currently in intensive training, Ben is spending one in every two weeks honing his skills at the Welsh Coleg Sir Gar alongside his two competitors, whilst also working towards a level four carpentry NVQ.

It is an incredible achievement for Ben, who credits much of his success to the support received from the Firm.

The semi-final is to be held in March and will see Ben compete to represent carpentry in the UK at the 2013 final in Leipzig, Germany.
