The red carpet was rolled out at the end of June in Norwich for ten painted gorilla statues, as a celebration party was held prior to the official launch of the GoGoGorillas trail. Lord Mayor of Norwich Keith Driver attended the event along with sponsors and artists.
The event was themed around the 1933 King Kong film, with actors dressing up as characters from the popular movie. As a surprise for the guests, there was a dramatic smoke and confetti unveiling of a King Kong statue climbing a scaled-down version of the Empire State Building.
All 53 of the gorillas have been in storage at R G Carter’s Drayton yard, with the team coordinating deliveries and dispatches of the statues. The trail will be live for eleven weeks, at the end of which each gorilla will be auctioned off to raise money for charities Break and the Born Free Foundation.
