R G Carter is very mindful of its responsibilities to its employees, subcontractors and general public with regard to Health and Safety on site. The company has an established H & S structure steered from Director level and comprising seven Safety Officers and Co-ordinators. Each Safety Officer has responsibility for a number of Construction sites and carries out regular site visits. In Summer 1999 R G Carter Construction teamed up with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to implement a climate survey with a view to assessing the company's safety. The object was to identify ways in which we may develop our safety culture and reduce accidents and to create greater consistency of safety standards. The Health and Safety Executive reported that it received "total co-operation from the company during the course of the review". The HSE interviewed a selection of our management and site personnel. Overall 73% of forms were sent back and the experience has proved to be enormously beneficial to our company and to the HSE. The survey was the first of its kind carried out with a construction company. We therefore are rightly proud and pleased to report its overall success. Safety 2000 This is the name of our initiative to raise the standards of safety, health and welfare across the R G Carter Group. It was inspired partly by employee's suggestions from last year's review which we carried out with the Health and Safety Executive. |
