R G Carter completed the construction of a 66 bed dementia care home and extensive external works and gardens.
The contract was awarded on a design and build basis with the architectural team being novated. Structural engineers and mechanical and electrical design were carried out by consultants with whom we have a previous strong working relationships with and also who have significant experience in care home design, this allows a comprehensive and extremely efficient design.
With 30 bedrooms on the ground floor specifically designed for nursing care, with another 36 on the first floor for dementia care, this new nursing home has a variety of facilities for its residents to utilise such as such as a hair salon, gym, internet cafe, spa, activity and therapy rooms and meeting rooms.
Due to the location of the development, we stringently adhered to our Considerate Constructors ideals and maintained close links with the local community and schools, encouraging a healthy interest within the building process.
Ensuring residents are able to participate in the day to day tasks by making the kitchens, laundry and gardens are accessible to all and allowing residents to partake in these activities, ensuring they maintain their independence for as long as possible.
Dementia friendly design was incorporated throughout the building, such as non-shiney floors, clear glazed cupboards, traditional fixtures and fittings and memory boxes for all residents.
