USP College – VR Facility Refurbishment
Originally part of South Essex College, a building previously used as a crafts trade college was successfully refurbished by the R G Carter Building Solutions team.
Acquired by USP College, the team transformed the space into a state of the art Content Creator and Technology Digital Campus, aiding USP College to become the first academic institution in the UK to create and experience content in virtual and augmented reality.
This included an enterprise room with full infinity cove green screen and lighting rigs, a Motion Capture Studio with an acoustically sealed recording studio, computer workshops and an immersive room was developed allowing lecturers to teach students at multiple campus buildings simultaneously. Doors and internal screens on the project were supplied by our own Youngs Doors Ltd.
R G Carter’s work internal works included providing:
- Ventilation, data, fire detection, blocking of walls and doors, floor coverings and decorations, new walls and doors and electrics.
- For Mechanical and Electrical, we adapted and connected onto existing services and ensured the remainder of the building continued to be operational whilst works continued.
- Surveying existing services to ensure design considerations were made in a timely manner, ensuring the project kept to program.
- Interfacing kept to a minimum to avoid mass disruption, for example hoarding and barriers to work areas.
The building Solutions team successfully completed phase 1 of this project which led on to Phase 2 negotiations which were carried out over the summer holidays of 2021.
USP scored RG Carter a 10/10 for communication and stated we provided the correct level of information and feedback for this project from our Customer Surveys.
