At the end of this summer, R G Carter completed a refurbishment project at the University of Cambridge, of the existing 1960s Chemistry laboratories located in the Department of Chemistry.

The project started with the demolition of internal walls and ceilings, stripping back to the steel trusses, whilst retaining the original wall layout for the new installation. The team installed two new fume cupboards and an upgrade to the existing fume extract system.

The eight new bespoke, reconfigured laboratories, with upgraded M&E and integrated new equipment, will now help improve and modernise the department’s facilities for the teaching of organic, inorganic, and radiochemical research, as well as organic, physical, and theoretical chemistry.

A successful project built on positive collaboration. Well done everyone involved.
