A name for Elstree Studios landmark new soundstages R G Carter are currently constructing has been chosen after more than 400 suggestions submitted to a public competition run in partnership with Hertsmere Borough Council.

Entries nationwide were inspired by icons of the silver screen and leading lights in industry, as well honouring heroes and film references to screen classics such as Star Wars, Big Brother and Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, all produced at this site.

The winning entry, PLATINUM STAGES, was submitted by Matt Payne, aged 43, of London; chosen due to its connotations of high value and exclusivity, aligning perfectly with the cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art specifications of this facility. It is also appropriate because the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is taking place next year when these new soundstages open.
