This week we are celebrating National Apprenticeship Week.
Heritage
With over a century of expertise in the Construction Industry, R G Carter has long championed the importance of nurturing future talent. Currently the Firm has 57 apprentices working across the business, having welcomed 18 new cohorts in September.
The company continues to invest in the training and development of young people, recognising that creating the right environment, alongside hands-on experience and mentoring, is essential to the sustainability of the industry and the continued long-term success of their business.
Our people
A people-focused culture lies at the heart of R G Carter. Built on teamwork and a friendly approach, the Firm’s family values have been passed down through the generations. Trust and loyalty form the cornerstone of the Firm’s success.
Central to this ethos is the R G Carter Academy, which has supported professional development across the business for more than 60 years. The Academy is a beacon of excellence in the training of exceptional craft and management apprentices. Today, 57 apprentices are employed across the Firm, as its passion for developing young people for the future continues.
Over the last 25 years the Firm has trained over 450 Craft Apprentices in trades such as bricklaying, carpentry, and mechanical and electrical services, as well as over 300 Management Apprentices in roles including project management, quantity surveying and design. In 2024 alone, the Firm delivered over 1,000 apprentice weeks.
2025/2026 Cohort
The latest cohort of 18 new apprentices are already valued, integral members of project teams across the eastern region. As they work towards professional qualifications, whether a degree or NVQ, each apprentice is provided with engaging on-site opportunities to bring classroom theory to life.
Learning from experts around them, is also an essential part of paving their way for success. Many of the Firm’s mentors have been apprentices themselves and are now sharing their skills, and experiences of career progression to help teach and inspire.
Here is a link to a short film of a welcome event run: https://vimeo.com/1124881334 where past apprentices shared their experiences and positive career journey at R G Carter.
At R G Carter, the next generation is encouraged to ask questions, be inquisitive, contribute ideas, and embrace the opportunities available to them. As a business committed to sustainability, innovative, forward-thinking construction, R G Carter remains dedicated to supporting and training young talent, as they continue to build for the future.
