Our team from R G Carter were delighted to be invited to the official Gala opening of the refurbished Cineworld complex at Ashford, to celebrate its completion with the Cineworld Cinemas Ltd team.

A great evening was had by all, and the perfect way to see audiences enjoying the new modernised venue and to test it out themselves with a first film viewing of Morbius in the IMAX.

The project comprised of the modernisation of an existing twelve screen complex and inluded the construction of a new glazed lobby at the front of the facility and an extension to side, with an additional two state-of-the art screens, IMAX and 4DX. A new concession counter and foyer was also installed, including a Starbucks. Working within a live cinema environment at times was a challenge, whilst also working with the restrictions of the delayed film releases due to the pandemic.

Ten existing screens were refurbished at the complex, and 2600 cinema seats installed in total. Particular attention was paid to the acoustic performance of each screen, and the vibration from the 4DX, as the seats move during each performance, meaning the building had to be designed so that this area was independent from the rest of the building but still sat within the overall structure.
