After 6 months working solely on the complex underground requirements on the new Energy Centre at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, we are now finally above ground! The enormous chimney flue seen here, is the first of the above ground installations which will provide extraction for the boilers at the Centre, supplying heating to the hospital.
A total of 37 metres high, the three flue sections were lifted vertically using a tandem lift technique, via a 220t crane. Three metres in diameter, with the base section alone weighing 16t, this epic construction required careful transportation and construction to ensure the safe installation of this important requirement for the Centre.
