To carry out the task of converting civil TriStars for the RAF, in 1983, Marshall commissioned R G Carter to build a new hangar for both freighter and tanker aircraft. Located at Cambridge Airport, it became the largest single span aircraft hangar in Europe, with the capacity of housing five aircrafts.

The first TriStar entered the hangar seven months after construction started, and in the summer of 2000, the company also built the new control tower.
