A ground-breaking event at Minster Close in Hatfield last week, officially marked the start of the construction of 90 new high-quality apartments for older people, which will replace the current council-owned housing scheme which was identified as no longer fit for purpose.

Leader of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Tony Kingsbury, ceremonially broke the ground alongside council officers, the project’s architects Rock Townsend and representatives from the R G Carter Cambridge team; Site Manger Rory Taylor can be seen back left in the image.

The contemporary one and two bedroom flats, each with their own private balcony, will be available through the council’s Affordable Housing Programme. The development also includes a community lounge and sun room, outdoor space for residents as well as parking, mobility scooter storage and electric charging points.
