Colchester Garrison
New Community Centre and Thrift Shop

Works Package 3120 was R G Carter’s second Entire Building Contract that was secured at the Colchester Garrison.

It comprised of phased construction of three new buildings, namely, a new church, a new two storey community centre and a single storey thrift shop together with the associated infrastructure and landscaping works.

Both buildings have a steel frame on pad and strip foundations with an artificial interlocking slate roof covering over composite metal decking to the community centre and a standing seam aluminium roof to the thrift shop.

The external facades include smooth textured facing architectural masonry and facing brickwork panels. The construction of the new Garrison is a flagship project for the MoD and is likely to represent the largest defence PFI accommodation scheme built so far. The R G Carter project was procured under a Design and Build Contract.
