Recladding at INTO Building, UEA

Built in 2009 by R G Carter Ltd, the INTO building at the UEA houses student accommodation, restaurants, a library and a teaching block.

Following the Grenfell tragedy, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 required the original Trespa panels covering the building to be replaced with granite Petrarch panels. As well as removal of the existing panels, the works also included the removal of the support frame, the insulation and the membranes all of which were replaced.

Over 6,000m² of cladding over 8 floors was removed and replaced over 17 months. Careful consideration and planning was needed to ensure student privacy was respected and that the weather didn’t impact any exposed materials underneath the panels after removal.

R G Carter has a close association with the UEA and we were delighted to ensure the safety of the building for the foreseeable future.
