St Andrews Healthcare Centre

R G Carter completed the refurbishment and alteration of two existing wards and a new build of a central core area at St Andrews Healthcare Centre.

The purpose of the project was to change the use of the building to a medium security mental health ward for female patients.

The works included a full strip out of all the existing services and plant room area; major re-structural and demolition works and replacement of all external doors and windows; new mechanical and electrical services; all internal finishes with new services such as staff attack systems and high level security systems.

The whole project had to be anti-ligature, (meaning all products will help prevent self-harm) because of the risk to patients.

During the project the team were given possession of the second phase six months late, because of external client issues. We were required to incorporate a temporary plant room to allow occupation of the first phase. Both phases were completed whilst the adjoining ward was occupied. The second phase then had to be completed for a deadline set by the NHS to ensure they received funding for the next five years. This meant completing the project four weeks ahead of the intended date.

We successfully completed the project on time and allowed the client and patients to occupy the new areas prior to the deadline.
