Waitrose Bath

R G Carter undertook the task of expanding the existing Waitrose branch in The Podium Shopping Centre in the historic town of Bath. In a tight 32-week programme of works, the team worked 24 hours a day, seven days a week to complete the extension and re-fit, expanding the branch into what had previously been 15 separate retail units within the shopping centre.

The extension work almost tripled the branch’s available sales space to a total of 40,000-square-feet spread over two floors.

Customers were able to shop at the branch throughout the works, with phased temporary layouts used to allow for continuous trading. Waitrose Bath closed for only five days towards the end of the project to allow for a final fit-out and stocking.

A local library located in the middle of the shopping centre remained open throughout the project and access was made available via a relocated escalator.
