Waitrose Stratford

As part of Europes largest urban shopping centre in Stratford East London, Waitrose was one of the 300 shops in this unique 1.9 million sq ft centre. The developer, Westfield, built the shell and R G Carter were tasked to complete the fit out of the new Waitrose store, located on Westfield’s lower ground floor. This was the second project for R G Carter and Westfield, having previously completed the Waitrose store at Westfield White City.

The new flagship branch features a limestone feature entrance, elaborate suspended ceiling, bespoke joinery oak feature rafts for five areas, including food counters and department areas, and terrazzo floor to all the sales floor with a diamond polish.

The project not only achieved BREEAM Outstanding but was also awarded Retail Project of the Year at the Building Research Establishment Audit Method (BREEAM) awards, highlighting its wealth of environmentally friendly and sustainable features.

The branch was the first Waitrose supermarket to run complete off-grid though an energy centre at the shopping mal, meaning 100% of its electricity was generated from renewable energy, powered by an energy centre which provides all heating and cooling requirements.
