Spital Street Health Centre
Procured through the YORBuild3 Medium Works Framework, we were selected by Sheffield City Council and NHS South Yorkshire to complete the design and construction of a new build General Practitioners Surgery and associated external works.
The new building is comprised of Burngreave Surgery, the Sheffield Medical Centre and shared bookable spaces for community and occupational health requirements.
This new steel-frame two-storey hub is located on Spital Street in a busy urban setting and comprises 1291m2 of internal floor space providing modern medical consultation facilities for the local community. The build comprises foundations, steel frame, masonry external walls, aluminium windows/curtain walling and cladding.
ENVIRONMENTAL
- We have installed 144 photovoltaic panels producing 77 kWh including 41kWh of battery storage using SolarEdge Technologies.
- The windows feature triple glazing to achieve a lower, more efficient U‑value.
- Heating for the building is provided by Air Source Heat Pumps, supplemented by immersion heaters powered by the PV system.
- We have placed four bee bricks on the façade of the building and introduced dormant mason bees to encourage them to establish a new colony.
- Tarmac surfaced car park with drainage attenuation to minimise site discharge and EV charging points.
- Cycle storage and hoops provided for both staff and public to encourage access via cycling.
- Drop-off area, community garden and seating.
- Externally, new green spaces were introduced to support wellbeing and boost biodiversity through the creation of additional habitat areas.
- Tree planting and gabion retaining walls with ornamental planting.
- On this project, 100% of waste—equivalent to 8,759 tonnes—was diverted from landfill.
The team worked closely with Carter Design Group, who delivered a full structural and civil engineering design service on this busy urban site project.
BREEAM Excellent targeted along with net zero in operation.
