Nene Valley Railway charity shop at Wansford, transformed from an R G Carter site container

One year after R G Carter supported Nene Valley Railway with the donation of a site container for its charity shop, the transformed facility has become a successful fundraising hub, raising more than £12,700 for projects across the railway.

The container was donated to provide a dedicated space from which volunteers could sell a range of donated items and raise valuable funds to support the heritage railway.

Over the past year, volunteers from Nene Valley Railway’s Building Services Team have transformed the container into a welcoming retail space. The team have added timber cladding and a new roof, alongside attractive landscaping around the shop, creating a facility that looks very different from the original site container.

Since opening, the charity shop has gone from strength to strength, with the £12,700 raised helping to support ongoing projects and improvements across Nene Valley Railway.

To mark the first anniversary, volunteers hosted a coffee morning at Wansford, welcoming Martin (far right) from R G Carter to see first-hand how the donated container has been transformed and the contribution it continues to make.

The visit provided an opportunity to celebrate the work of the volunteers who have given their time to develop and run the shop, as well as the impressive amount raised during its first year.

It is a fantastic transformation, and we are proud to have played a part in helping to create a facility that continues to support the railway, its volunteers and the wider community.
