R G Carter are pleased with the current progress being made on Building 60. The first floor concrete frame has been erected ahead of schedule, and we are currently making good progress on the second floor and the 8 metre high feature columns now stand proudly across the main entrance to the new building, offering a sense of strength as the next generation of scientists pass by them into their new facility in one years’ time.
Excitement continues to build as we reveal each level of the concrete feature wall, following successful exploration by the team on methods of achieving the bespoke finish. Over 7,000 zinc shingles were recently placed on order together with the specialist corten steel, which requires a specific natural weathered finish.
The R G Carter team continue to work closely alongside the UEA on items such as mechanical and electrical design. Where we are reality checking the details to the fume cupboards, adiabatic cooling and integration of the audio visual design as part of our journey towards end-user satisfactory.
This month will see the arrival of a virtual reality cave on site, alongside laboratory furniture mock-ups for the UEA laboratory users to familiarise themselves. At the end of the month we are looking forward to hosting a site visit from the East Region of the CIOB.
