Carrowbreck Meadow

Carrowbreck Meadows in Broadland District is a pioneering, new development of 14 new Passivhaus-certified homes for open market sale and shared ownership and is one of the first 100% certified Passivhaus mixed-tenure developments to be completed in Norfolk.

Carrowbreck Meadows represented a first step into Passivhaus construction, and we have since gone on to become one of the UK’s leading Passivhaus developers.

RG Carter was involved from an early stage of the development, working collaboratively with Broadland Growth Ltd and Hamson Barron Smith Architects to realise the ambitious, award-winning design. The scheme is one of the first developments by Broadland Growth Limited, an innovative partnership between Broadland District Council and NPS Property Consultants.

In order to deliver against stringent Passivhaus standards, we enhanced our in-house technical capabilities by putting key members of staff through ‘Certified Passivhaus Tradesperson’ qualifications and held Passivhaus workshops with our supply-chain partners. The benefits of this approach are evident on the level of air-tightness we were able to achieve. An impressive score of 0.3ACH@50Pa was achieved on-site, twice as good as required by Passivhaus and ten times above the level required by Building Regulations.

At the time of Carrowbreck’s completion, R G Carter employed over 25% of the Passivhaus Certified workforce in the UK.
