High Performance Centre
Oaklands College

Oaklands College are redeveloping their existing St Albans Campus to provide upgraded facilities and learning spaces for students. The Sports Pavilion (High Performance Centre) is part of the third phase to transform the site, alongside the Construction Centre, which were delivered by R G Carter simultaneously.

The facility, spanning 1,012m², is a single-storey steel-framed building, positioned facing the sports pitches. The scope of works includes immersive rooms with TV screens for virtual ‘team talks’ for students and players, as well as studio space for classes like yoga and pilates. Changing rooms are equipped with underfloor heating, while the gym features exceptional equipment, meeting the high standards expected for professional athlete training. Additional amenities include therapy rooms, dedicated staff office space, and student and staff WC facilities, all designed to create a versatile, high-performance environment for both fitness and wellness. External works, site wide drainage and infrastructure upgrades were inclusive of the scope.

These new amenities will support the continued success of the College and their ‘Oaklands Wolves academies’, renowned for their sporting excellence.

The team throughout construction facilitated work experience opportunities and site tours to the College’s Construction and Engineering students to provide insight into their future workshops. The team also attended numerous careers days and talks at local schools (and Oaklands itself) to provide the students with the opportunity to discuss their careers and pathways into the industry. These initatives have provided the students from the College with realistic experience and relevant knowledge of construction on a project which they can relate to being on their College campus.
