Holbeach Police Station Redevelopment & Expansion

Lincolnshire Police identified that the existing facility was accommodating additional staff and resources who had been partially relocated from the Spalding police station to allocate resources evenly across the district, and to ensure a faster response time. Therefore, the existing facility was no longer fit for purpose to house additional officers.

The force planned for the two existing decades old prefabricated temporary buildings to be replaced with two single storey extensions along with resurfacing the car park. The redeveloped building following the construction work has provided an improved layout and quality of the facility, enabling Lincolnshire Police to operate more effectively and serve the local rural communities.

The work undertaken included:

Client:
The Police & Crime Commissioner for Lincolnshire
Location:
Spalding, Lincolnshire
Completion:
April 2022
Architect:

Back to Projects
  • Demolition of two prefabricated buildings and complete strip out of the original internal building including. the removal of ACM
  • Two new traditionally built extensions incl. a new combined drainage system
  • New aluminium windows and doors
  • A new single ply roof membrane completed to a warm roof design
  • Internally existing ceilings were removed and lowered to create more depth for current insulation requirements
  • The internal fit out included a full gypsum plaster skim to all walls and ceilings and new decoration throughout
  • New carpets and vinyl flooring were laid throughout

  • New internal doors to the extensions and retained existing internal doors were decorated
  • Upgrade to the mechanical, electrical and plumbing services incl. new pipework
  • Air conditioning was installed in specified rooms with condenser units mounted externally to the rear
  • Electric panel heaters were installed in rooms, where specified
  • The public footpath was lowered with a new tarmac surface
  • The original carpark surface was removed with new surface drainage and concrete finish installed. To the rear, paving slabs were installed and 20mm Staffordshire stone laid.

Now complete, the works undertaken has significantly enhanced the appearance of the building and improved its identity within the local community. It has also made the building more accessible for staff and visitors.

R G Carter also did their bit in relation to social value by paying for road markings to state “Private” on the immediately adjacent dwellings dedicated parking bay to remind police station visitors that this bay was not for public or police use, which had been a problem for a number of years previously.

Time Capsule Discovery

Whilst working on a refurbishment and extension project, our project team made a fascinating discovery in the ceiling of Holbeach Police Station when they stumbled upon a constabulary time capsule’ hidden from sight for over 55 years! A letter signed by the Sergeant at the time accompanied an annual report, police files and the names of those serving at the branch in 1964 when it was built. A Parish newsletter and an old Penny were also enclosed.

The team decided it would therefore, in our Centenary year, be fitting to create their own time capsule in partnership with Holbeach Police, and replace it in the roof, ready and waiting for the next contractors in years to come!

Official Opening Ceremony

On Friday 29th April 2022, the official opening ceremony of the refurbished and extended Holbeach Police Station was held. The event was attended by dignitaries from the Police, South Holland District Council and Holbeach Council.

Despite many hidden challenges, the Building Solutions team from R G Carter Cambridge overcame all, gaining the praise of Chief Superintendent Kate Anderson and Inspector Nick Waters. The project’s successful delivery was a result of a collaborative approach between R G Carter and Lincolnshire Police, culminating in the ideal modern environment for the officers to undertake their vitally important work in the local community.
