Leighton Buzzard Health Centre

R G Carter undertook the refurbishment to the Leighton Buzzard Health Centre.

The works comprised of the alteration and refurbishment of the existing accommodation to increase the provision of primary care accommodation were completed over two phases:

Phase 1: A soft strip out and demolition, creating a much needed new reception area and 6 clinical rooms. The first floor was remodelled
Phase 2: The strip out the physio room, creating 2 new clinical rooms in their place, as well as a kitchenette area for staff.

MEP works included LED lighting that was installed throughout, meaning no additional work was required to the plant room. This is a prime example of simple value engineering, understanding and actioning solutions to minimise cost, time, and build complexity.

As this project was an internal fit out, there were no external works to the site, taking away potential complications of overlapping works from the tight site area. With the addition of new welfare facilities on the upper floor, installation of additional drainage to upstairs was required.

Leighton Buzzard Health Centre was one of several health centres which were expanded and innovated, pushing the NHS Trust into the position of a healthcare leader. Client feedback indicated high approval of the way the team conducted themselves in a live environment with very little disruption to the surgeries. They commented on several occasions how professional we all were on site. Notably, the site received a visit from the health minister of the time.
