West Dereham Ward Refurbishment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

R G Carter were appointed to convert a dementia friendly care of the elderly ward, co-located in the west wing with the stroke unit and other care of the elderly ward.

The scope of works included the refurbishment of the existing outpatients clinic back into a 28-bed ward for the elderly, including some remodelling, new floors, ceilings, doors, IPS, 2 Gas Medical bed heads, nurse call system and with M&E upgrades to the existing system, as well as the creation of a day room and garden space for the patients.

As elderly people are a significant proportion of the Trusts demographic, this has improved the ward to meet their needs and bring the care of the elderly patients together in one area of the hospital, close to the discharge lounge and their outpatients area. This area of the hospital also has a separate entrance with ambulance drop-off/pick up point.
