Extension and remodelling of an existing 1980’s office block for Wrenbridge
Colwyn House was originally built by R G Carter Colchester in the 1980’s.
They were appointed on this project to carry out extensive remodelling and redevelopment work to provide a visually striking building offering Colchester Town Centre’s only environmentally friendly Grade ‘A’ office space.
Extensive value engineering and risk workshops for the proposed redevelopment resulted in an optimised and affordable design solution which made the project viable.
The scheme specification was altered and the building taken back to the frame and extended on all levels with cantilevered projections to extend the floor plate and roof on each of the four elevations.
The atrium was also in-filled to provide significant additional floor space, with the finished project offering a total of 28,000 square feet of offices.
Curtain walling was replaced prior to a complete fit out to a Cat ‘A’ specification.
The project included the installation of energy efficient air conditioning/heating systems, motion sensitive low voltage lighting, Photovoltaic solar panels and cycle racks.
The scheme achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ certification.
“The Square was constructed to a standard and specification which provides synergy with the owner’s modern and professional corporate image.’
